World’s greenest supercomputer heads to Melbourne to boost health research

The University’s Victorian Life Sciences Computation Initiative (VLSCI) will be home to one of Australia’s fastest supercomputers and the world’s greenest supercomputer, the IBM Blue Gene/Q.

University to host world-first IBM research facility

The University will be home to the world’s first IBM Research and Development Centre.

The lab – which will engage with researchers from the University, CSIRO, National ICT Australia (NICTA) and Australian business - will begin operating during the first quarter of 2011.  IBM expects to employ about 150 people, including 38 PhD students, within five years.
