Did you know that the Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC) is a department of the University of Melbourne?

MTC, now situated in Southbank, is Australia’s oldest professional theatre company. Founded in 1953 by John Sumner, it was originally known as Union Theatre Repertory Company, and was based at the Union Theatre in the student union building.  It currently exists as a semi-autonomous department of the University.

Producing an annual main-stage season of up to 12 plays, NEON Festival of Independent Theatre, the Cybec Electric play readings series, and an annual Education program, MTC is one of the major performing arts companies in Australia, and one of the largest theatre companies in the English-speaking world.

MTC offers University of Melbourne staff and their partners an exclusive discount of up to 20 per cent off standard MTC subscription package prices, and discounts on tickets to individual shows.

For further information, visit the MTC website.
