My Melbourne with Astrid Bovell

October 10 / 47

What is your unit?

Information Management (Copyright Office)

What is your job title?

Copyright Information Officer

How long have you been with the University of Melbourne?

Three months

How did you come to work at the University?

After working for six years in music copyright, I saw an advertisement for the job at the University and I was qualified, so I applied.

Describe you typical day

Most of my time is spent researching the copyright owners of material and chasing up requests I’ve made to copyright owners for use of their material. Exciting stuff!  If you create material, make it easy for people to get in contact with you if they want to use it!

What is it about your job that holds your interest or is particularly satisfying?

Copyright is an amazing and seemingly endless set of doors which open into many rooms, and inside those rooms you find many more doors, which lead to many more rooms. The quest for understanding what is in those rooms and past those doors never ends.

What is the best piece of advice you have received?

My grandmother used to say “things will always work out for the best". Sometimes I find it hard to believe, but eventually I look back at those difficult things and realise she was right.

What is something about yourself that most of your colleagues wouldn't know?

If I tell you that, then they’ll know!

Where do you buy your coffee on campus?

Kere Kere or Baretto

What do you like most about the University?

It’s a nice place to work, people are nice, the campus is beautiful and it evokes a lot of positive memories for me from when I studied here.
