University names Chair of Teacher Education

Professor Stephen Dinham, Research Director at the Australian Council for Educational Research, has accepted the University’s first Chair of Teacher Education position.

He will commence his new role as Director, Learning and Teaching / Chair of Teacher Education at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE) in January.

Professor Dinham is recognised as one of Australia’s foremost experts on teacher education.

Dean of Education Professor Field Rickards said he was delighted by Professor Dinham’s appointment.

“Professor Dinham has been appointed following an international search,” he said.

“We are confident we found the right person for this challenging and exciting position.

“Professor Dinham’s leadership will provide a fresh perspective, and enhance our work with the teaching profession. I am certain he will build on the significant success of our Master of Teaching and provide expert support for our very active research portfolio.”

During his 20 year career, Professor Dinham has won more than 60 grants totaling almost $4,000,000 and produced more than 260 publications, including the acclaimed 2008 book How to get your school moving and improving: an evidence-based approach.

Current Director of Learning and Teaching at the MGSE Associate Professor Ray Mission will retire at the end of 2010 after a distinguished 36 year career serving education at the University.
