The University has announced the appointment of a Vice-Principal (Advancement) and a new Executive Director, Research, Innovation and Commercialisation.

Mr Nick Blinco, presently Director of Engagement at the University of Birmingham, will commence as Vice-Principal (Advancement) in early September. A graduate of Oxford, Mr Blinco has over 20 years of experience in development and alumni relations at Mansfield College Oxford and at Birmingham.  In his tenure at Birmingham, he was responsible for a growth in philanthropic income from 200,000 pounds to 10 million pounds per year.

Mr Blinco joins an Advancement team responsible for the continuing success of Believe - the Campaign for the University of Melbourne.  The campaign has attracted more than 18,000 donors and contributed over $420 million to the University. Forty per cent of this will support research, and over 20 per cent is earmarked for scholarships and individual support.

In another major appointment, Mr Doron Ben-Meir will join the University as the new Executive Director, Research, Innovation and Commercialisation in June.

Mr Ben-Meir is a highly regarded entrepreneur, and is currently the Director of the Entrepreneurs Infrastructure Program in the Commonwealth Department of Industry.

He was previously the inaugural CEO of Commercialisation Australia, from 2010 to 2014. Before joining the Federal Government, Mr Ben-Meir was founder and director of a number of successful start-up businesses, most recently as CEO of Prescient Venture Capital.
