Winning hearts and minds of international students through football

March 16 / 178

A new program has been launched called ‘Engaging Melbourne’, which aims to foster the engagement of international students with local students around the themes of football and the city.

The Melbourne Football Club with the support of Study Melbourne and the University of Melbourne launched the event to staff and students from tertiary educational institutions recently.

Engaging Melbourne is designed to deliver engagement opportunities for students in a fun and creative way and is aimed at tertiary students at universities, TAFEs and private colleges.

Some of the highlights include:

-   Making new friends from other universities and colleges

-   Exploring and better understanding the City of Melbourne

-    Building social and professional networks

-    Learning about Australian Rules Football

-    Developing leadership skills

-    Having fun

The program aims to create a sense of belonging to the city, the club, and the football code for international students.

Working in groups, participants will make new friends and new local and international connections.

Each program will run over a six-week period in semester – avoiding breaks and exam periods – and involve five different activities/events.

The semester one program will run from mid-April until late May and registrations are now open.

Participants must register for the semester 1 program at www.melbournefc.com.au/engagingmelbourne by 24th March.  All participants will then be contacted with information
