Melbourne Theatre Company’s the Joy of Text – Special staff offer

June 11 / 63

The Joy of Text is a play on the nature of satire, the subjectivity of truth and the knife edge of student-teacher relations by Melbourne playwright Robert Reid.

Directed by MTC Associate Director Aidan Fennessy and set against a backdrop of staffroom politics, Mr Reid’s mainstage debut for MTC is a satirical dissection of education.

MTC Artistic Director Simon Phillips said, “Nurturing new writers is one of the most important jobs theatre companies do, so when promise ripens into achievement, as in the case of Robert Reid with this switched-on, intelligent social comedy, the heart gladdens”.

The Joy of Text was read at a public play reading as part of the MTC 2009 Cybec Readings.

“When The Joy of Text appeared as part of The Cybec Readings last year, the energetic voice matched by adept and sassy plotting appealed to the crowd. Many badgered me afterwards to schedule it in the main season, which it is my pleasure to do,” Mr Phillips said.

Because the MTC is a department of the University, staff who book tickets to The Joy of Text online using the promo code JOY will receive A-Reserve tickets for $72. This offer is valid for Monday to Thursday performances only, when tickets are booked online. Playing at the Arts Centre, Fairfax Studio until 23 July.

Mini Subscriptions are now on sale: 3-6 Play Packages start from $135.00, Under 30s $84.00, 8688 0800 or
