Nigel Cossar joins prestigious Council of the Forum of Education Abroad

July 11 / 65

Associate Director of Global Mobility Programs at the Office of Admissions Nigel Cossar has been elected to the Council of the Forum on Education Abroad.  He is the only Australian council member.

The forum, located at Dickinson College, U.S., is the only organisation whose exclusive purpose is to serve education abroad. Its members include US colleges and universities, overseas institutions, consortia, agencies and provider organisations.

Ms Carmel Murphy, Executive Director, Office of Admissions and Director International, said Mr Cossar’s nomination and subsequent election indicated how highly the forum membership valued his work and previous contributions.

“Nigel has been an active member, which has resulted in an increased profile for the University, and has contributed to increased student mobility outcomes,” she said.

“His council membership will provide him, and in turn the University, with further profile, particularly in North American education abroad centres.”

Mr Cossar said because the forum played a leading role in the development of policies and standards to support student mobility, his election meant he would be better able to support the future direction and development of such standards from a uniquely Australian perspective.

“To be recognised for the work we have done as a University, and myself as a practitioner in the field of education abroad, shows the focus on student mobility programming and policies at Melbourne is highly regarded,” he said.

“My appointment to the council will help Melbourne play an active role in the future direction of international learning mobility, both within Australia, but also globally.

“Melbourne continues to play a leadership role in outbound mobility nationally, and the council will further help us expand this role.

“An ultimate aim is to ensure the University’s international learning mobility programs engage students in and out of the classroom, in a safe and academically enriching environment, through quality assured measures which meet the needs of the diverse student body Melbourne enjoys,’ Mr Cossar said.
