More than 200 University of Melbourne staff, students, alumni and supporters turned out to show their support for diversity and inclusiveness by joining the Midsumma Festival Pride March this weekend just gone.

The march – which celebrated its 21st birthday this year - kicked off from the Lakeside Drive end of Fitzroy Street in St Kilda and made its way to the Catani Gardens where a community picnic took place.

Social Media Advisor Yves Makhoul Periscoped the march and said it looked as if UoM had the largest contingency out of the all groups.

“It was amazing to witness all the UoM branded rainbow flags as far as the eye could see,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor and Provost were among other senior staff who joined the team, and all the action was caught on video.

The march is part of what has become an iconic event, recognising and celebrating Victoria's gay, lesbian, bisexual, intersex and transgender community, while remembering the brave and long road travelled on the journey to equity.
