Melbourne Accelerator Program at the top of its game

December 15 / 172

The Melbourne Accelerator Program (MAP) has climbed five places in the World Top University Business and Accelerator Rankings 2015, to number eight.

The rankings are compiled annually by Swedish research firm UBI Global. MAP is now number 1 in Australia and number 2 in Asia Pacific.

"It's wonderful to see MAP recognised internationally as a benchmark accelerator program," said program Director Rohan Workman.

"There are many talented entrepreneurs around the University and we're looking forward to supporting even more of them into the future."

Founded in 2012, MAP supports University of Melbourne startups with mentoring and funding. So far, its startups have raised over $10 million in funding, created more than 120 jobs and generated over $5 million in revenue.

Recent successes include Parkhound, an online community where members can exchange and lease parking spaces and Relectrify, which offers an advanced system for unlocking value in battery storage. Prospective applications include giving pre-used batteries from electric cars a second life in solar energy storage.
