Six staff receive Library Staff Excellence Awards

University Library staff were recognised for their outstanding contributions and service excellence at an awards ceremony in late November.

Six staff members received recognition for their work at the ceremony, which more than 100 people attended.

The Staff Excellence Award winners for 2013 are:

  1. Library Staff Excellence Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Library, Astrid Bovell.
  2. Library Staff Excellence Award for Library Service Excellence, The Library Systems Team.
  3. Highly Commended Award - University of Melbourne Archives Protest! Exhibition, Sue Fairbanks, Katie Wood.
  4. Highly Commended Award - The Robert Menzies Collection: A Living Library, Caitlin Stone and Jim Berryman.
  5. Library Staff Excellence Award - for Outstanding Contribution to Student Life, Somchit Terrell.
  6. Excellence in Business Process Improvement, Bradley O'Brien.

Ms Sandra Woods, Library Learning and Development Consultant and awards organiser said the selection panel was delighted with the quality of the nominees and large number of nominations for 2013.

"This year we received nominations from right across the University ranging from academic staff and students to professional staff,” she said

“We received 68 nominations, compared to 36 in 2012."

Nominations for the fourth Library Staff Excellence Awards were open to all members of the University community.

Award winner in the category of Outstanding Contribution to the Library, Ms Astrid Bovell, Copyright Communications Officer (Copyright Office) said it was nice to receive a nomination and discover her work was recognised.
"That kind of recognition makes it worth the effort, it is professionally inspiring and touching to hear the things your peers have said about you and realise the extent of their faith in your abilities,” she said.
