Senior University staff who made presentations at Careers and Employment's Employer Forum

Last month, Careers and Employment hosted its second annual employer forum to strengthen University/employer relations.

Senior members of University staff including Provost Professor John Dewar took part and more than 70 guests attended, most of whom were from a large range of external organisations, including Accenture, Australia Post, Shell and Yarra Valley Water.

The event preceded by the afternoon Employment Experience Fair.

The guest were a diverse group of staff, from hiring managers through to company CEOs, and local and international employers.

Penny Warner from Careers and Employment said the forums were part of the unit’s work “to exemplify the employability of our students to a broad range of employers from small-to-medium businesses right through to multinationals.

"In running this particular forum, we aimed to provide employers with a broad understanding of the Melbourne Degrees and allow them the opportunity to ask questions,” she said.

“Employer Forums are a great way to engage with a diverse group of employers, further demonstrate the strength of our students (in terms of employability), answer questions our key stakeholders might have, and learn about what they are looking for in graduates.

“We chose speakers who represented the areas where we get the most questions from employers.”

Careers and Employment will upload the recording of the forum up on their website later this month - http://www.careers.unimelb.edu.au/.
